SWQHA is an affiliate organization of the American Quarter Horse Association. The purpose of the organization is to provide quality Quarter Horse experiences for horse enthusiasts in West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and surrounding areas.
The show season runs from November 1 to October 31st. A total of 22 AQHA sanctioned shows are offered during the year by the main organization. The Amateur association offers clinics and learning experiences throughout the year.
SWQHA holds its Convention and Awards Banquet the first Saturday in December. The year end awards are very impressive: saddles for division high point and other suitable awards for class high point winners. The Youth and Amateur organizations also give awards in their divisions.
To be eligible for year end awards, membership in SWQHA is required. Family membership has one vote and includes all children under the age of 19. When a child is no longer eligible for youth status or is married, they must have their own membership. The same rules apply to Ranch, Farm, etc., that apply to family membership. To be eligible for amateur awards below first place, amateurs must belong to the amateur association. An application for their association can be found on the SWQHA Amateur News section. To become a member of SWQHA, please contact any current member.
