I am happy to report that our 2007 Labor Day Futurity show was a great success. The Saturday show had 255 entries and the Sunday/Monday split combined came in with 274 entries. The futurity classes were very competitive and the winners were happy with the cash payouts. Ours is one of the longest running futurities in the nation and one of the only ones in which the winner is handed a check as they leave the arena. In 2007 the SWQHA added $1.500 to the futurity and we hope to increase that amount in 2008. So start planning your 2008 entries!
Our October shows will be held on the 13th and 14th. We are happy to report that the October show will offer awards for every class. You must show both days to be eligible for the class award. Also new in October, a new class will be offered: open youth all breed walk/trot western pleasure for horse and rider combinations that are not entered in other AQHA classes. If this class is supported we will consider adding other walk/trot classes to encourage new youth exhibitors. Bring out the beginning riders and let them have some fun.
Also at the October show, our youth group will host a sale table. Clean out your tack room and price your items, and the youth will do their best to sell them for a small 10% commission. Bring anything: tack, clothes, trailers, horses or whatever! If your items don't sell there will be no charge.
The October board meeting will be held October 11, 2007, at the Anthony Seniors Center. This will also be a general membership meeting and everyone is welcome. Come voice your concerns so they can be placed on the agenda for the December Convention.
Get your entries in early be contacting Farrell Morton. Keep up with current events at our website (www.SWQHA.com). If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.
Sincerely,
